Sand Mandala

A Tibetan monk creates a Mandala using dyed sand particles.  Once the painting is complete it is viewed for only a short period of time and then is destroyed to symbolize the temporal nature of life.  All or part of the sand is then deposited into a natural body of water in a mindful act to spread peace throughout the world.

Mosaics

Mosaic Art dates back 4,000 years or more.   Here is an example from the Roman Empire found in  Tunis, Tunisia, from the 3rd century-5th century A.D.  18 11/16 x 31 3/4in. (47.5 x 80.6cm).
